Americans
spend billions of dollars every year in mobile phone bills. With over
229 million subscribers paying over $50 per phone, and taxes of 14.5%
(twice that of other general goods and services), mobile phone
carriers are raking in the cash leaving YOU holding the bill. That's
about to change. It's time to take some of that money back.
While
most of that money is generated in monthly recurring charges, some of
it is hidden carefully from view within pages and pages of subscriber
details, or simply not explained until you actually take the time to
read through those pages of your bill. However, carriers take away
your freedom and hold you hostage with two year agreements and early
termination fees, so even if you're dissatisfied, you can't take your
business elsewhere.
Within
these pages is impartial advice written from someone who has been in
the mobile phone industry for nearly 20 years; working as an indirect
agent, a inbound customer care agent, a call center supervisor, a
call center trainer, a direct agent store manager, and is currently
still employed in the industry. None of this information is illegal,
simply just not talked about. Nearly all of it can be found if you
take the time to do some solid research and talk to the right people.
The
rest of it is simply observations of human behavior from someone who
is inside the industry. The goal at the end of this paper is to give
you a guide that will help you save more money that what you paid for
this information, and the little piece of mind that comes from
knowing you're not going to be nickel-and-dimed on your mobile phone
bill.
Keep
in mind that the mobile industry is constantly changing. While every
effort has been made to make this document accurate, carriers are
capable of changing things at will. In order to keep this document
brief, it will concentrate on the four major providers (Sprint,
T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon, with lighter touches on other
providers. However, this document should hold tremendous value to all
who read it.
During
this induction into the world of wireless communications, it will be
a lot easier to understand if you have the following items available:
-
A
copy of the last three months of your wireless bill.
-
An
online account with your provider and access to internet.
-
A
calculator.
-
Patience
– this document should never be read in one sitting.
