Palm Pre and Palm OS troubleshooting tips

The Palm Pre will be launched on June 6th, 2009, and with it comes the problems associated with any launch. At the same time, the newest Palm OS will also be released. If you're new to the Palm OS or if you're upgrading, the following links and support lines can help make this transition an easy one.

Palm recently announced the availability of additional software capabilities at launch (http://blog.palm.com/palm/2009/05/more-webos-details-at-d.html). This additional software will allow for things like Twitter Search and the ability to sync to iTunes.

Customer Setup Help Line: (866) 750-PALM.  This number should be used AFTER setup is completed in store and profile is created.  If customers have any questions on 'how to sync with this or that' this is a great line to connect to and will be available for all customers post 90 days of purchase.

Here are some additional tools available for Palm Customers:

1) On the Pre there is a 'Help' application in the launcher.  At launch it will have general and context sensitive help notes and links to video.

2) On www.Palm.com/support, we will post tutorials and knowledge articles if customers have more specific questions.

3) At launch we will also have a 344 page PDF of the user guide on the Palm support site.

4) On http://learning.palm.com/sprint there will be product tutorials that customers can look at including tips and tricks (this will go live on 5am PDT on June 6th)

Palm is eager to help our existing PalmOS customers make the transition to the Palm WebOS platform.  In particular, customers who are users of Palm Desktop software on both Windows and Mac have to make important decisions about where to store their personal data and how to sync that data to their new Pre phone.  To ensure a positive customer experience, Sprint should take special care to identify these customers and as often as possible point them to special Palm resources, like our palm.com/migrate-pre website and our Setup Help line (866-750-PALM).

Any other specific questions on migrating data (Outlook desktop edition, ACT, etc), please point customers to palm.com/migrate-pre which will be available at 5:00AM PT Saturday.

My Palm will no longer sync both ways w/ my desktop. The olny way it will is by overwriting the Palm. This is the error I get,
startIndex cannot be larger than length of string. Parameter name: startIndex Activity
What can I do to fix it?

About the best thing you can do is to attempt to make a back up of your Palm (I'm assuming you have PalmOS and not WebOS) on your computer, or hope that your most recent back up is OK.
Uninstall and Reinstall the Palm desktop and hopefully that will work.
