iPhone 4 Reception Problems May Prompt Recall
iPhone 4 recalls because of poor design elements may be on the horizon, due to poor reception when the phone is handled by the metallic band that surrounds the device. The metallic band, which covers the entire edge of the iPhone 4, was an integral design enhancement on the Apple device, to increase the signal reception on the iPhone 4, but a slew of videos on the internet indicate otherwise.
Apple's Steve Jobs has suggested that 'you don't hold it that way' suggesting that all cell phones have weak spots that, when held, will degrade the service of the cell phone. A bit like Marie Antoinette's famous phrase, "Let them eat cake".
Interestingly enough, you can purchase (from Apple) a band that will cover the edge of the phone shown here for $29.00 USD, that will help remove that interference.
Should the iPhone 4 be recalled? If I were king of Apple, I'd consider it the right thing to do, but I wonder how Steve Job's and co. look at this - if his comment above is any indicator, then you're not likely to see a recall of the iPhone any time soon. Perhaps we'll get an iPhone 4GS in June of 2011, with the 'S' that stands for 'Signal'. Until then, we'll keep you posted.
