BlackBerry unable to register IMAP account
The Question:
I've got a new storm 2, arrived this morning, it's my first blackberry, and I am trying to access my existing IMAP accounts with it.
Apparently I should use the "I want to create or add an email address" option from the setup wizard, however this option is not present, all I have are the Blackberry Enterprise Server, or Skip Email setup options.
The Answer:
Congratulation on your purchase, the BlackBerry Storm 2 is a pretty cool phone, and a much needed improvement to the original Storm. If it's time to upgrade your cell phone, I highly suggest making the move.
Your first BlackBerry purchase, especially if it's your first smart phone, can be pretty harrowing. I usually tell people that you'll hate the phone for two weeks, and then you'll wonder how you've gotten along without a BlackBerry.
At any rate, your current status message means that your cell phone hasn't registered with the Verizon Wireless network as a BlackBerry, and this doesn't always happen immediately, especially when your BlackBerry 'service books' get lost on the web, or don't get sent at all.
There are a couple of fixes for this, if it doesn't resolve itself. 1) pull the battery out when the phone is powered on, and then reinserting the battery and powering on your cell phone. This is the equivalent of rebooting the phone software, and forces it to re-register on the network. 2) Call technical support by dialing 800-922-0204 and routing yourself to technical support. They can see where the registration hang up might be and fix it manually.
Additionally, please remember to back up your cell phone. You back up your BlackBerry Storm 2 in one of two ways: Use the software that came in the box to back up your contacts on your computer, or you can search the BlackBerry Application store for MIQ - It's a free product from Best Buy that will allow you to back up your BlackBerry online - pretty cool!
Good luck with your BlackBerry Storm 2!
