Coming Soon: Google Voice
Google Voice is another free service that allows users to funnel their SMS messages, their voicemail messages, and other calling features into a single Google Number. While not launched as of today, Google mentions that it should be available in the next few weeks, and will comprise of three services in one package:
One number for all your calls and SMS messages:
Google Voice will allow you to screen calls by listening in on any voicemail as its being left by the caller. You can interrupt the voicemail to take the call. In addition, you can choose which calls to block (something most providers won't allow you to do), which phones ring when certain numbers call, as well as place calls to any US number.
Voicemail features:
Google Voice allows you to read your voicemails online, transcribing and storing them for later use. You can also listen to your voicemail from your mobile device or online, or even download or email your voicemails.
Calling features:
Google Voice will offer a suite of calling services, including conference calls, recording calls, and storing calls for later use.
All in all a pretty comprehensive group of services. However, there are privacy concerns with your transcribed calls being stored 'online' where they could be hacked and grabbed, so keep in mind this may not be for everyone.
