Get the AMBER alert service on your cell phone
The AMBER alert program has been active since 1997, providing an early warning system to locate missing and abducted children. Since President Bush signed the program into federal law, it has helped to locate children hours after their disappearance, and has been critical in saving children's lives.
Most cell phone providers allow you to sign up for the service for free, even if you don't have a text (SMS) messaging plan, and you can opt in to receive AMBER alerts for a specific zip code when you sign up.
You can sign up for wireless AMBER alerts by sending a text message to AMBER (26237) from your wireless device, with the zip code in the body of the text message. You can go to http://www.wirelessamberalerts.org/ to opt in on the web.
