Tethering for the Android phone
Finally, an application that will allow you to use your Android cell phone as a modem has been developed by none other than June Fabrics, who also supplies their PDA Net Phone as Modem software to Palm, Apple, Windows Mobile, and BlackBerry.
The setup is pretty simple:
1) Download the free PDA Net application from the Android Market.
3) Download the software - also free, but $29 gets you the ability to use secure (https) websites.
4) Follow the instructions and it simply works.
Very easy stuff, and another way to increase the value of your $30 data plan. We tried and tested it. Of course, a little slower than the cable modem, but fast enough for us to write this article and submit it, powered by PDANet.
The service powers both by USB (which will charge your phone while you surf) and by using the Bluetooth Dial Up Networking (DUN) profile, which is pretty nice if you want to go wireless. Just remember, Sprint and Verizon customers, that you cannot be on a data call and a cell phone call at the same time.
Enjoy!
