Use your Sprint or Verizon phone on Cricket or MetroPCS

Thinking of moving to Cricket Cellular or MetroPCS? You can reuse your Sprint or Verizon phone and have them reflashed to those services.

In fact, both companies encourage folks to get their phones reflashed to use on their service, and for good reason - it prevents out of pocket expenses when starting up services, and it keeps otherwise good working phones in use and out of land fills.

For MetroPCS, visit

In both cases, you'll need to set up an account before calling to use your ESN (Electronic Serial Number) and keep in mind that not all services will work on either Cricket or MetroPCS (Data on smartphones, for example, can be quite tricky).

There is software that you can purchase for a reflash from various parts of the internet, but do this only at your own risk, and remember you'll need to have a data cable to do so.

The services themselves are not too shabby pricewise, either, so long as you're using them within their coverage area, about $50 a month for unlimited service. Think Boost pricing, but only with a limited service area and MUCH better phones.

Both Cricket and MetroPCS provide great value for those who need it, and with the reflashing of Sprint or Verizon phones, they're keeping cell phones a little greener.
